Where to I appraise a pair of rare drumsticks?
I have a pair of rare Alex Van Halen signature Regal Tip drumsticks. They are a "double butt" design with what appears to be a weighted insert in one end of each stick. These were given to me back in 1991 by my grandfather (who worked the concert lighting). He received them directly from Alex, after he mentioned that I liked playing the drums and that I was a fan of Van Halen. I also attended the concert that night (For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge tour).
I have emailed the Regal Tip company and inquired about the sticks. They verified that these were made exclusively for use by Alex, and that they were never made available for sale to the general public. They couldn't speculate on the value of them, but did say that the model had been discontinued.
I would like to find out how much these sticks are realisticlly worth. Any help would be appreciated.
Defining market worth is difficult because price is technically what you can convince someone to buy something for. I'd recommend participating in an auction and setting a limit price at which you would not let them go. (Ebay for example) I've done this with several of my drums.
