How hard is the metal pewter when it comes to particle use?
I bought a belt buckle made of pewter, in the description it was stated they are made of solid pewter, after some slight research I found it was listed as a "soft" metal. But that's just as far as all metals go.. Outside of physics, will it be easily dinged up ?

I visited a pewter factory in the summer in Fredericton, New Brunswick. It was the owner himself that gave my daughter and I the tour (very cool!), and I learned a lot.
Modern pewter is almost completely made of tin, with just a little bit of copper? added. It was once made with lead, but that is not allowed now, as it makes pewter dishes unsafe to eat from.
It is very soft indeed. It can easily be dinged and/or bent. It can be tempered somewhat to make it harder (and also more brittle), but I would not plan on putting a 34" belt on a 38" waist anytime soon! The buckle will give pretty easily.
