Elvis Presley?

I am conducting researches on celebrities especially on some who have a dramatic end, regarding Elvis Presley I am confused, I watched a DVD about an investigation relating to his death - Apparently he went under witness protection because he was in danger (Relation to a cooperation with the FBI about drugs) - The documentary was quiet convincing - A picture of him taken from someone after his death, a recorded converstation etc - can someone tell me more or it's only fiction? Many thanks.
I have no dought that he is dead, I just want to know if the official circonstances were true!
